We believe that life, like ice cream, is to be enjoyed.
Ten years ago, Naomi, founder of Mami’s Gelato, had a problem: Making vegan frozen desserts for her restaurant was hard. Although she had formulated her own dairy ice cream at her first shop back in 1983, vegan “ice cream” was new and different. Not only did she have to figure out what base to use, she had to source a lot of different ingredients to mimic the taste and creaminess of dairy ice cream.
The more she worked at it, the more complex it became. Once she would figure out a recipe, she had to figure out how to make it without (literally) breaking her back while concocting the different creations. She successfully came up with soy, coconut, almond and even macadamia ice creams, but found herself in the kitchen almost all day everyday. “This is not going to work,” she thought.
She decided the best way to solve the problem would be to make a mix, and then teach her gelato chef how to make ice cream from the mixes, rather than from scratch. This is how Froconut®, Mami’s Gelato’s first mix, was born.
At some point she realized that others might be going through the same trials and tribulations, and she, in consultation with her family, decided to manufacture the mix for other food service operators. But first they had to find out if their hunch was right. Off they went to their first national trade show, and Mami’s Gelato, the manufacturer, was born.
Over the years, Mami’s Gelato has grown and through this growth it has developed a level of expertise unrivaled by other would-be competitors. Through trial and error and hard work, the Mami’s Team have figured out how to deliver simple to use plant-based mixes to ice cream shops around the country and world.
